Winning Over Bullies

Winning Over Bullies

By Phyllis Freeman Has not the Lord gone ahead of you. Judges 4:14  CHARACTERS Sisera Deborah Barak Jael A true story is found in Judges 4. A military commander, Sisera, was a bully. He harassed God’s people, the Israelites. They prayed for deliverance from Sisera’s bullying. Deborah was a prophetess and Israel’s judge. She told a soldier, Barak, “I’ll lure Sisera and his troops to the Kishon River. You be ready to attack his army.” Barak told Deborah, “If you don’t go with me… I won’t go.” “I’ll go,” she said, “but the Lord will give Sisera over to a woman…has not the Lord gone ahead of you?” Since Barak was afraid, God was going to let a woman wipe out the great military leader. God always has a plan for victory before...

Where’s The Wheels?

Where’s The Wheels?

The Lord is fighting for them… Exodus 14:25 “Go, Go!” Moses said to the children of Israel as he led them to step into the Red Sea. Moses raised his shepherd’s staff, and God rolled back the water. The sea became tall water-walls on both sides with a path in the middle, and the people walked across. Hmm…their feet got dusty instead of muddy…how did that happen? God sent a strong wind to blow on the path, and it became dry from one side of the sea to the other shore. As they reached the other side, they saw hundreds of chariots coming after them. They were terrified. Ziggedy-Zag. The Egyptian chariots wobbled back and forth as a wheel came off, then another one. The warriors from Egypt were frightened, because they knew God was fighting against...

Friendship Has No Color

Friendship Has No Color

Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism, but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right.” Acts 10:34-35 “See ya tomorrow, Michael.” Joshua dropped the red and yellow football in the grass and hopped on his bike to head home. “I’m so glad I wasn’t born in the 1950s,” Michael said to his dad as he picked up the football. “Why do you say that?” “Well, in social studies, Mrs. Logan said if I were a kid in the 50s, Joshua wouldn’t be my friend. We couldn’t play on the same football team, and we wouldn’t even be able to go to the same school.” Michael’s dad went out for a long pass. “Not allowing kids to go to the same school just because of their color sounds...

The Photo Book

The Photo Book

…be ready to do whatever is good Titus 3:1 Recently, I attended a wedding and the reception following the ceremony. The bride and groom rented a photo booth for their guests. A photo booth is a wooden structure about five feet tall, with two sides and a curtain in the middle. If you step behind the curtain you will see a camera on one side. Sometimes, below the camera there will be a shelf full of things like funny hats and super large sunglasses you can wear while you are having your photo made. The camera usually takes four photographs, and you have about five seconds between each picture to get ready with a new pose. When you come out of the photo booth you are given copies of the photos. At the wedding I attended, the photo booth printed two copies of the...

What is a Hero?

What is a Hero?

By Kenneth Winters There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. 1 Cor. 12:6 (NIV)  Hero. Hero is a word often misunderstood. What do you think of when I say the word hero? Most people will say a super hero: Superman, Batman, and Green Lantern. Well I guess you could say that, but there’s more to it. A hero doesn’t have to have powers or a cape.  Babe Ruth was a hero, and he didn’t have powers. Even so, you don’t have to be good at sports. You could be someone’s hero just by being kind to them. For example, you could open the door for your sister or unload the dishwasher without being asked. Lots of people are good at their own thing: art, writing, and maybe even designing. If you use the gifts that God gave you...
