Sibling Squabbles

Sibling Squabbles

Ps. 133:1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity. KJV       Photo courtesy of Dreamstime.com “Get out of my seat!  I was sitting there!”  The fire in James eyes matched his red shirt. “You left, now I’m sitting here!” “Alek, you know that’s my spot, now move!” Alek, who sat like a stone statue, was no match for his older brother James.  With fierce determination, James slammed into his brother and the battle was on. Does this scene sound familiar?  It may not be about a favorite spot on your living room couch, but if you have a sibling, you more than likely know what it’s like to have a quarrel. Squabbles with your sister or brother are normal.  Selfishness comes naturally, but...

Balaam and the Donkey

Balaam and the Donkey

Balaam & the Donkey  by Daphne M. Self But God was very angry when he went, and the angel of the LORD stood in the road to oppose him. Balaam was riding on his donkey, and his two servants were with him. When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand, she turned off the road into a field. Balaam beat her to get her back on the road.  Numbers 22:22-23 NIV Have you ever imagined what the family cat might say if she had to share her gourmet dinner with the family dog? What would the family dog say if he had to share his daily bowl of canned food with the cat? Today animals only talk in the movies, but long ago God made Balaam’s donkey speak. God told Balaam not to go see the King. Balaam disobeyed God....

One Nation Under God

One Nation Under God

“Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the Lord: Look to the rock from which you were cut and to the quarry from which you were hewn;look to Abraham, your father, and to Sarah, who gave you birth. When I called him he was only one man, and I blessed him and made him many.  Isaiah 51:1-2 NIV Hey Kids: Last week I challenged you to investigate the service men and women in your family. What cool pictures and stories did you find? Did anyone fight in the Revolutionary War? Sign the Declaration of Independence? Did anyone serve in WWII or Vietnam? Is someone in your family currently serving in the Armed Forces? Have you thought about writing a thank you note to those in your family who have/are serving? I had a ggg grandfather who...

Greater Love Hath No Man

Greater Love Hath No Man

Hey Kids: I dug out an old photo of my dad in uniform to share today. I remember as a child he would show us this picture and tell us a little of the things he did in service. He laid telephone lines and called artillery fire. He also taught us a little German. I thought kartoffeln was just another word for potatoes, because he would just ask us to pass the kartoffeln. When I took German in high school, I learned I had actually learned bits and pieces of another language. Take a little time this weekend to find out who has served in your family. Ask mom and dad to dig out old photos and tell a few stories of your families sacrifice of love. Don’t forget to say a thank you to those still living and don’t forget to thank the One who gave the greatest...

Fast Food

Fast Food

By Gail Cartee Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. Matthew 13:33 (KJV). Have you ever made a loaf of bread and watched the yeast do its work? Yeast is a type of fungus that causes bread dough to rise. A small amount of yeast is mixed into flour along with other ingredients. The dough must be continuously folded and mixed, otherwise known as “kneaded.” This takes time and a lot of hard work. Then the dough is allowed to rest and rise. This is not fast food. It takes most of the day. But oh, the satisfying taste of fresh baked bread for supper! The kingdom of heaven, Jesus said, is like making bread. The gospel was first...

The Thoroughbred or the Nag

The Thoroughbred or the Nag

By Rebekah McCausey Psalm 18:2  The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. I know the Bible says we are like sheep and Jesus is like the shepherd, but I’m not too keen on sheep so I think we have similar needs as horses. If you think about it we both need the same things to grow.  It’s the basic stuff that every one needs like food, water, shelter, exercise, grooming, and companionship. Our spirits need the bible, food of the soul, Jesus, the living water, the solid rock of faith that protects us in the storm, other Christians to help us through, and most importantly God, the one who grooms us into perfection.  Do you see what I mean? We...
