Crusty Edges

By Bea Edwards Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139: 23-24  NKJV   Do you love the edges of the bread cut off your sandwich? Some say the crust contains nutrients. Others say it is wasteful to throw away the edges. I say, there’s nothing quite like a spongy white or squishy brown interior that makes whatever you smash between it taste so much better. Some people have what we might call a crusty exterior. They have a tough, hard shell that is difficult to get past. They frown more than they smile and their tone of voice seems gruff and harsh. Often we find them unpleasant to be around. Perhaps you know family or church members who fit...

Please! Don’t Starve the Crows

By Bea Edwards Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119: 105 NKJV Some days are spent just thinking–thinking about things that other people never wonder about. Things like: how God got the leopard to sit still long enough to paint his spots, and why the woodpecker doesn’t peck his brains out. Today, I’m thinking about flies. Nasty little critters, and thieves too! Don’t believe it? Try having a picnic and see who gets to the potato salad first, you or the fly. But you know what? Even the fly has a purpose in Gods plan. Even the fly has a reason to exist. After all, without flies, what would crows eat? God has a plan for you too. No matter the color of your skin, whether you are wealthy or in need, we each play a part in God’s...

Pick Me First!

By  Bea Edwards Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings. Psalm 17:8 NKJV   Jamie slung her backpack onto the porch and plopped down on the steps to pout. “Why the long face?” her dad asked. “We played ball in school today and I was picked last. I’m always picked last!” Jamie said. “Maybe they were just saving the best for last.” “No they weren’t,” Jamie said. “I’m the most unpopular kid in my class.” “You are the most popular kid in this house,” Dad said. “I think you are the greatest, and I love you with all my heart. In fact, you are the apple of my eye.” It’s no fun to be picked last and feel like everyone is liked more than you, is it? Did you know that you are Jesus’ favorite kid?...

Zack: A Tree Huggin’ Man

By Bea Edwards For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost. Luke 19:10 NKJV Zacchaeus heard the townspeople talking and crowds were beginning to gather. “Jesus is coming!” they said. “The man that’s been healing the sick!” said others. I want to see him, Zacchaeus thought. Now, Zacchaeus was a short man. Perhaps shorter than you, and he couldn’t see above all the people in front of him. Across the road he spotted the tallest tree he had ever seen. I know what I’ll do. I’m good at climbing trees. He didn’t want to ask Jesus any questions and he didn’t need healing. He just wanted to see Jesus. So guess what Zacchaeus did? When Jesus looked up, there lay Zacchaeus sprawled out and hugging tightly to the tree limb so he...

Are You A Bully?

By Bea Edwards The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good. Proverbs 15:3 NKJV Have you ever been bullied? Perhaps someone told a story about you that was false. Maybe you have been called names that hurt your feelings. If asked, most people will say they have been bullied. It hurts and often causes feelings of insecurity that can be difficult to overcome. But, what if YOU are the bully? Do you tell false stories behind your classmates’ backs? Do you call them names in the halls of the school or on the bus? If you are the bully, you probably don’t want your parents, your Sunday school teacher, or your pastor to know, do you? Did you know that there is one who sees everything? There is nothing that can be hidden from Him....
