Friendship Has No Color

Friendship Has No Color

Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism, but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right.” Acts 10:34-35 “See ya tomorrow, Michael.” Joshua dropped the red and yellow football in the grass and hopped on his bike to head home. “I’m so glad I wasn’t born in the 1950s,” Michael said to his dad as he picked up the football. “Why do you say that?” “Well, in social studies, Mrs. Logan said if I were a kid in the 50s, Joshua wouldn’t be my friend. We couldn’t play on the same football team, and we wouldn’t even be able to go to the same school.” Michael’s dad went out for a long pass. “Not allowing kids to go to the same school just because of their color sounds...

Yogurt Berry Smoothie

Fruits and veggies are essential, but a good imagination might be the most important component of a good smoothie. From mangoes and bananas to berries and spinach, almost any fruit or veggie can become an ingredient. One great thing about smoothies is they can actually disguise the tastes you don’t like. You may turn up your nose at a plate of spinach, but if you mix a few leaves into a fruit smoothie, you won’t even taste the good-for-you leafy greens. Yogurt and berry smoothies are a favorite at our house this summer. They taste so good that it’s hard to believe they’re nutritious. Try one for breakfast, with a meal, or as an afternoon snack. And don’t be afraid to be creative and mix in some ingredients of your choice.   Ingredient list 2/3...

Pizza Balls

Pizza Balls

Everyone in my family loves pizza, and we found a recipe that makes pizza not only yummy but fun! There is some prep time involved, but the process is so simple even young kids can help out. Pizza Balls – (Ingredient list)  3 cans buttermilk biscuits 1 pkg pepperoni slices (You will use about 60 pieces) 1 block of your favorite cheese (We use mozzarella) 1 beaten egg Parmesan cheese Garlic powder 1 jar pizza sauce First, cut the cheese into 30 small chunks. Next, the biscuits will need to be separated (a great job for young kids) and flattened with a rolling pin. Once you have the biscuit rolled flat, place a piece of pepperoni, followed by a chunk of cheese, followed by another piece of pepperoni on top. Then gather up the edges of the biscuit and...

Family-Friendly Mexican Casserole

Family-Friendly Mexican Casserole

I am not a chef, but I sure spend a lot of time in the kitchen.  God has blessed me with a husband and three growing boys who eat a lot; every day. So I am always looking for fun easy kid-friendly foods to feed them. My kids don’t like meals with lots of strange ingredients, so I look for main dish recipes that are simple but still have nutritional value. Every once in a while I hit on a yummy dish that my kids are both able to help with and are eager to eat. The following recipe is one of them.  I hope your family likes it as much as ours does. Dorito Casserole 1 lb ground beef (or shredded chicken) 1 pkg. taco seasoning 2 cups crushed Doritos (My kids like Doritos…and crushing things! How about you?) 1 can cream of chicken soup ½ cup sour cream ½ cup...

The Rotten Apple

By Kim Harms My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment, do not let them out of your sight. Proverbs 3:21NIV “Ewww. Gross!” Jeff hollered from the deck. He had just watched his little brother Paul sink his teeth into an apple he found on the ground beneath Grandma’s apple tree. Jeff rushed to Paul’s side just as the five-year-old grimaced and spit the bite of rotten apple into the grass. With a trickle of apple juice dribbling down his chin, Paul looked from the discarded fruit on the ground up into Jeff’s eyes. “That apple looked yummy, but it was gross.” Many things look good at first glance, just like the apple. Paul saw a shiny apple on the ground, but he didn’t look close enough to discover the rotten underside. Sometimes we focus on...
