Yogurt Berry Smoothie

Fruits and veggies are essential, but a good imagination might be the most important component of a good smoothie. From mangoes and bananas to berries and spinach, almost any fruit or veggie can become an ingredient.

One great thing about smoothies is they can actually disguise the tastes you don’t like. You may turn up your nose at a plate of spinach, but if you mix a few leaves into a fruit smoothie, you won’t even taste the good-for-you leafy greens.

Yogurt and berry smoothies are a favorite at our house this summer. They taste so good that it’s hard to believe they’re nutritious. Try one for breakfast, with a meal, or as an afternoon snack. And don’t be afraid to be creative and mix in some ingredients of your choice.

Smoothie 1

Ingredient list

2/3 cup plain or vanilla yogurt

¼ cup fresh or frozen berries

2 – 3 tablespoons milk

1 tablespoon wheat germ

1 tablespoon honey

Simply pour all the ingredients into your blender and blend for approximately 15 seconds.

Smoothie 2

Pour the smoothie into a cup, insert a straw, and enjoy!

Smoothie 3

A couple of hints:

  1. Adjust the amount of milk to change the thickness of the smoothie.
  2. If you use fresh berries, you may want to use less milk.
  3. Wheat germ is not necessary, but it is a great way to get needed Vitamin E and folic acid.
  4. You can replace the wheat germ with another nutrient rich food like flax seed or oat bran.
