On the Ark for a Whole Year

On the Ark for a Whole Year

Mrs. Noah’s Diary By the first day of the first month of Noah’s six hundred and first year, Genesis 8:13a (NIV) by Bonnie Beardsley Dear Diary, We have been on this boat for a year. Noah’s birthday is today, and we are still waiting for God to open the door. I asked why we must wait and Noah said, “Could you imagine the mess we would have if all the animals got stuck in the mud. It may look like it is dry to us, but the only one that knows if it is dry is God.” Noah explained it well like he always does. After being in here for a year, everything and everyone one smells like the animals. No matter how many times the boys cleaned up after the animals each day, there was always more. What an endless job. I can’t wait to take a nice hot bath. About...

Bye, Birdies

Bye, Birdies

Mrs. Noah’s Diary He waited seven more days and sent the dove out again, but this time it did not return to him. Genesis 8:12 (NIV) by Bonnie Beardsley Dear Diary, Over a month has passed since I last wrote so I’ll catch you up on what has happened. Noah opened the hatch in the roof and released a raven to find dry land. The bird just kept flying in circles. Next, he released a dove to see if there was dry ground, but the dove came back. Noah brought it back in the ark. A week later he sent the dove out again. It stayed out longer than before and brought back an olive leaf in its mouth. After another week Noah let the dove go again, but this time it didn’t come back. It’s the sign we waited for … the bird found dry land. About Bonnie Beardsley Bonnie...

Seeing Land Three Months Later

Seeing Land Three Months Later

Mrs. Noah’s Diary The waters continued to recede until the tenth month, and on the first day of the tenth month the tops of the mountains became visible. Genesis 8:5 (NIV) by Bonnie Beardsley Dear Diary, Japheth came running in shouting, “Land ho.” I didn’t like them playing pirates when they were growing up. But this time it was true—he had spotted the tops of some mountains near us. The girls and I planned a party. We made fig cakes and roasted veggies in the small oven while the guys worked on everything else. We danced after we ate to celebrate the first sight of land, even though it was just mountain tops. Then we played a game trying to guess what mountains we are looking at. No one knows who won yet. About Bonnie Beardsley Bonnie Beardsley is...

Finally, the Rain Stopped

Finally, the Rain Stopped

Mrs. Noah’s Diary The waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days. Genesis 7:24 (NIV) by Bonnie Beardsley Dear Diary, The rain had stopped the day after my last post, but it is taking a very long time for the water to go down. It is almost five months since the rain started, and there’s no land in sight. Noah measured the water again and it has gone down some. All this humidity has my hair frizzy. The girls and I are wearing scarves to cover our hair. I have a couple of funny stories. We learned to be quiet when you walk past the parrots. Ham’s wife said something about being in a floating zoo. Next thing we heard were the parrots saying repeatedly, “floating zoo squawk.” The other story is that a cat got out of its cage and the dogs...

Introducing Mrs. Noah’s Diary

Introducing Mrs. Noah’s Diary

Mrs. Noah’s Diary  Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God. Genesis 6:9b (NIV) by Bonnie Beardsley Dear Diary, Noah gave this to me for my five-hundredth birthday. I never thought of using it, but with what he told me is going to happen, I thought it would be good to write about it. Noah and I got married a long time ago. I think I was thirty-five years old. He was so handsome and brave to follow God like his great-grandfather, Enoch. Noah’s name means rest. We have watched this world walk away from God and his ways. Not good. When we had our first-born son, Shem, everyone kept asking his name, but we had a hard time deciding on one. Noah, being a tease, named him Shem, which means name. Our...
