Word Feathers

Pleasant words are like a honeycomb. Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.

Proverbs 16:24 (NKJV)

Has anyone ever called you an ugly name? Maybe someone laughed at your clothes or the way you comb your hair. Having your feelings hurt is no fun, is it?

Did you know that our words are like feathers? We can take a pillow stuffed with feathers to the top of a high building on a windy day, cut the pillow open, and watch the feathers fly. Once they are out, it is impossible to retrieve all of the feathers and put them back into the pillow.

That pillow is like our mouths and the feathers are like our words. No matter how hard we try, once they are out of our mouths, we can never pull our words back in again.

None of us want our feelings to be hurt and none of us want to intentionally hurt anyone else. Let us pray, every day and ask God to help our words be kind and loving to those around us.

Bea Edwards lives in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina with her best friend: a three-year-old pit bull named Sophie. She has one grown daughter who is forever “the apple of her eye.”
