Please Believe Me

Please Believe Me

“Lying lips are extremely disgusting to the Lord, but those who deal faithfully are His delight.”

Proverbs 12:22 (AMP)

by Penny L. Hunt

The time-out chair has a hard seat. It’s turned so I can’t see out the window, and it’s so high my feet don’t touch the ground. Today I had to sit there for a long time.

Mom asked if I’d taken Ellie for her morning walk. I said, “yes,” but I hadn’t. I’d watched cartoons instead. Ellie couldn’t wait and pooped on the rug by the front door. Dad stepped in it—in his bare feet.

I didn’t want Ellie to get in trouble. I told Dad it was my fault. I said I’d waited too long to take her out. Mom heard me. I was caught in the lie I’d told.

Dad said lying was one of the worst things I could do. It made it difficult to trust me anymore. He said it would take a long time for him to believe me again. That made me very sad.

When time-out was over, I told Mom and Dad I was sorry for telling a lie. I promised I would never do it again. They forgave me, and gave me another chance to always tell the truth. Ellie licked my face and I took her for the longest walk ever.
