Minnie-Henny’s Full Heart

Minnie-Henny’s Full Heart

A Full Heart

“I’m hungry!” Minnie-Henny clucked as she trotted out to find breakfast.

In the chicken yard, she spotted a tiny chick huddled in the corner. He looked thin and scared. His feathers stuck out, and his legs wobbled when he tried to hop. He pecked at the ground but found nothing to eat.

“Oh, you poor thing,” Minnie-Henny whispered. “You need food more than I do.”

Just then, Farmer tossed a shower of golden corn into the yard. Minnie-Henny darted forward, picked up a bright yellow kernel, and carried it straight to the little chick.

He blinked up at her and gave a shy smile before gobbling it down.

Minnie-Henny hurried back for more. One piece. Two pieces. Three pieces. Again and again, she brought corn until the chick had a little pile in front of him.

Soon, he stood taller and pecked happily.

Minnie-Henny’s tummy rumbled—grrrr!—but the corn was gone.

“Minnie-Henny,” Mama Hen clucked, “you didn’t get any corn at all!”

“That’s okay, Mama,” Minnie-Henny chirped. “My tummy is empty, but my heart is full. I just want to flap my wings and sing! Helping that hungry chick feels better than eating.”

Farmer watched from the fence. He had seen everything. With a smile, he sprinkled a fresh handful of corn right in front of Minnie-Henny.

She hopped and danced. Now her heart was full and her tummy too.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” (Matthew 5:6 NIV)
