Minnie-Henny Learns An Important Lesson
An Important Lesson…“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.” (Matthew 5:5 NIV)
Important Lessons
“Who is the most important bird?” Minnie-Henny squawked.
She watched Rooster crow loudly from the tall tree stump. He stretched his neck, keeping a sharp eye on the sky.
Minnie-Henny’s gaze shifted. Mama clucked softly while teaching a fuzzy batch of baby chicks. She showed them how to scratch for food and sip water.
“Silly little things,” Minnie-Henny thought. “They don’t know anything. Mama just clucks, and they copy her. Rooster must be the important one. He’s strong and brave. Mama is not important. Baby chicks are not important.”
Just then, a shadow swept across the chicken yard. A hawk!
Rooster cried out, “Cawwwk!” warning the hens to run for cover.
The baby chicks froze in fear.
Mama spread her wings wide. She covered the chicks, making herself the target.
“Mama! Mama!” Minnie-Henny squawked. She dashed toward her. “Watch out for the hawk!”
Mama pressed her wings tighter, gathered the chicks close, and hurried into the coop.
But—oh no! One chick slipped away!
Minnie-Henny threw her wings around the tiny bird. She held him tight, just like Mama. She felt his little body safe against her feathers.
With a rush of hope, Minnie-Henny dashed into the coop. She had saved him!
“Mama, forgive me,” Minnie-Henny said softly. “I thought you weren’t important… and neither were the chicks.”
Mama nuzzled her gently. “Minnie-Henny, God gives everyone a job to do. You are important when you humbly serve the One who owns the henhouse. Today you saved a chick! That makes you important.”
Minnie-Henny’s heart swelled. She finally understood. Everyone can be important when we do great things for others.
