Easter Poem

Easter Poem

An Easter Poem Jesus and his followers went to Jerusalem. As they traveled, great crowds followed them. He went to the temple and drove out merchants there. He said, “This is not for thieves. It is a house of prayer.” He taught at the temple and preached the Good News. Then some priests and elders came to question all his views. They confronted him as if looking for a fight. They asked, “Why are you here? Who gave you the right?” Jesus then asked them a question so they would understand. He asked, “Did John’s right to baptize come from God or man?” The priests and elders could not tell them. So Jesus refused to tell them. Some teachers of the law tried to trick him. But Jesus was calm and ready to answer them. They asked...

A Poem of David and Goliath

A Poem of David and Goliath

Goliath served with the Philistines. The biggest guy anyone had seen. He challenged the armies of Israel. He threatened them with his steel. He asked, “Will anybody fight?” “I will beat any with my might.” He held his sword up so high. He shook it in the sky. When that message was heard by all, The Israelis looked to their King Saul. The king looked for someone to beat him. But only one boy said he could defeat him. In order to protect his flock, David knew how to throw a rock. He knew how to keep Danger away from his sheep. He was not a fighting man. But he was willing to take a stand. David promised to fight the giant. But Goliath remained defiant. Joseph

Joseph

Jacob had a favored son. He loved him more than anyone. He gave him a coat with many hues. A gift that stirred unwelcome news. Joseph’s brothers burned with rage. They set their hearts on a darker stage. They seized him, sold him into chains. They told Jacob only pains. They dipped a coat in goat’s red stain. They carried home a tale of pain. Jacob tore his robe and cried. He believed his son had died. Joseph served a king in a distant land. In that role he took command. He saw his kin in hunger’s grip. He filled their sacks for every trip. He forgave their deeds, he eased their fears. They stood before him, washed in tears. Jacob rose with sudden joy when he held his living boy.   David Sowards, television producer, short story writer, poet,...
