Bible Lessons from the Chicken Coop

Bible Lessons from the Chicken Coop

“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” — Ephesians 4:2

People act a lot like chickens.

Chickens are not all the same. Some have feathered feet. Others have feathers on their heads that stick out everywhere. Different types of chickens can lay different colored eggs.

Grandpa raises chickens for their eggs. He has four pens, each with a different kind of egg. Some are large or small, brown or white. One of his chickens even lays light green eggs.

Have you read Dr. Seuss’s book Green Eggs and Ham? God made real green eggs—they’re prettier than the ones in the book.

But what about chicken personalities? It’s interesting. Some chickens act bossy toward others. Some ignore you and only come to the fence when there’s food. Once, when I went to collect eggs, a chicken got loud and cranky. Unfortunately, some are mean.

I prefer the friendly ones.

You know, chickens remind me of people. When I watch how they act, I often laugh because they resemble people I know. Some people like to crow, just like roosters. A group of hens will cackle together. When a hen lays an egg, she’ll cluck loud enough for the whole yard to hear. And baby chickens? They peep, eat, and poop.

People may act like chickens sometimes, but I’m glad God made us human beings. People are created to love one another. We serve our families, make friends, and help others. Chickens don’t do that.

Ha, you made me laugh. I agree, my chicken friends definitely have their own personalities!
