GOD’s (our) world is really big—GINORMOUS… His Authentic AWESOMENESS! It has many fascinating, exciting, new, and spectacular people, places, and ideas. Yet all of these seem to be made smaller—or not as significant—by technology, travel, and easy access.
Scientists are realizing there are countless galaxies and discoveries yet to be made. So vast are the species of plant and animal life created by GOD!
- More than 14,000 varieties of mushrooms
- 10,000 types of tomatoes—on the vine, grape tomatoes, beefsteak tomatoes, plum tomatoes
- Not quite that many ice cream flavors… though new combinations come to our attention often!
Because of so much familiarity, what is truly amazing is sometimes viewed as commonplace—NO BIG DEAL! Too often we are not impressed, stunned, or surprised by the multitude of places, sights, or experiences. Sadly, nothing seems to move us to wonder, thrill, or speechlessness.
On the other hand, ordinary, everyday, plain old things earn the ultimate description: awesome! This word is now attached to almost everything—sports ⛷⚾️🎣🏀🤿⚽️, trips, snacks, clothing, ideas, cars.
But only One is truly worthy of being called awesome! Let’s read these:
Deuteronomy 7:21
“No, do not be afraid of those nations, for the Lord your God is among you, and He is a great and awesome God.”
Genesis 28:16-17
Then Jacob woke up. “God lives here!” he exclaimed in terror. “I’ve stumbled into His home! This is the awesome entrance to heaven!”
Exodus 15:11
“Who else is like the Lord among the gods? Who is glorious in holiness like Him? Who is so awesome in splendor, a wonder-working God?”
Exodus 16:10
So Aaron called them together, and suddenly, out toward the wilderness, from within the guiding cloud, there appeared the awesome glory of Jehovah.
Exodus 20:20
“Don’t be afraid,” Moses told them, “for God has come in this way to show you His awesome power, so that from now on you will be afraid to sin against Him!”
Exodus 24:17
Those at the bottom of the mountain saw the awesome sight: the glory of the Lord on the mountaintop looked like a raging fire.
Numbers 16:42
Soon a great, sullen mob formed; suddenly, as they looked toward the Tabernacle, the Cloud appeared and the awesome glory of the Lord was seen.
✝️ Dear GOD, YOU and YOU alone leave us in AWE! We cannot comprehend all of Who You are. We honor, worship, and appreciate Your greatness, majesty, beauty, power, sacrifice… and YES, Your AWESOMENESS!
May our hearts, minds, and spirits always remain overwhelmed by You and Your great love for us! Your reminder to us is to describe YOU—and no one or nothing else—as awesome!
