After the Decorations Come Down

For several weeks last month, energy, enthusiasm, expectancy, and excitement surrounded us. Everywhere we looked and went, there was singing, music, twinkling, and blinking. It was the order of the day for most.

Which rehearsals are on the schedule? My brother and I get to help Grandpa with his huge tree. I cannot wait to see what is in that striped box. Are my clothes ready for the concert? I was chosen to portray Mary, the mother of JESUS. What gifts do I need to buy? When are my cousins arriving? I promised to help Grandma with baking.

Now the relatives are gone. The surprises are over. The decorations are packed away for eleven more months. Have you lost interest in those gadgets already? Are you disappointed?

Before you sink into the doldrums, read Luke 1:26–56. Who says we only hear this in December? Any time works for remembering and reliving the scenes of angels, messages, miracles, wonder, and worship. This story never grows old or boring. It remains full of hope, joy, love, and PEACE.

JESUS offers these each day, moment by moment. Perhaps December kept you busy with plans and places to go. Maybe lights, sparkle, and stuff blocked you from seeing, knowing, and sharing JESUS, who is our hope, joy, love, and PEACE.

Today is the day to receive or share the greatest gift of all. Do not tuck this truth away. Give it away. If you asked Jesus into your life, or if you spoke with someone about the true meaning of HOPE, send us a note. We want to encourage you, celebrate with you, and welcome you into the family of GOD. We want to pray and praise GOD with you.
