A Real Doll

Hannah loves her American Girl dolls. Every year for her birthday, she gets either a new doll or an accessory for another. She won’t let anyone play with them. “You can’t play with those. They are special,” she says .

Hannah’s friend Becca loves American Girl dolls too. She doesn’t have any dolls, but she’s read all the books. Becca’s mom is a single parent, works two jobs, and can’t afford a doll. When Becca goes to Hannah’s house she stares at the dolls, wishing she had one.

Hannah asked her why she always looked at the dolls but never asked to play with them. “Because they are special and I don’t want to mess them up,” Becca replied

“Do you have any?” asked Hannah.

“My mom can’t afford them but I am saving my money I get from birthdays so I can buy one someday.” Becca smiled. Hannah’s mom told her that God loves it when we share our things and give to others who are in need. When we do good things for others, then we’re showing them Gods love.

Hannah decided to love Becca and show her God loves her too. This year for her birthday, Hannah will not get a new doll or clothes for her doll, but Becca will. She’ll get an American Girl doll!

Share what you have with others and enjoy the blessing of giving. It is better to give than to receive.
