A Day at the Museum
Creation Day 6
The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. Gen. 2:7
Mr. D brought us to a zoo on the way home from the museum to talk about Day 6. There were some really cool animals, my favorite are the apes because they seem to resemble people somewhat. I met this boy there and we talked while watching these two apes play. Before I say more, let me back up a little. You know when there’s something in your heart that you know is true, you just know that it’s true, but when you’re try to explain it to someone, you can’t put it into words? Well that happened to me today! I’m a pretty smart kid and I know every bit of us was made by God, but I just couldn’t find the words to answer my friend on what makes us so different from these creatures. So I invited him to listen to Mr. D talk, and am I glad I did! Let’s see if I can remember what he said…
He said lots of cool things, that even though animals are an important part of God’s creation, God gave man authority over them and set (man) apart in these ways: we’re made in God’s image and made to have a relationship with Him, we have a language to communicate, we can create stuff, like cool art and mega skyscrapers and of course music (although you’d never wanna hear me play anything), we have a thinking mind, we have a sense of right and wrong, and LOTS of other things! But as he always does, Mr. D saved the most important thing for last, so I will too. (Remember, the word “breathe” here is really important.)
He reminded us about our lesson on the atmosphere yesterday, and how God gave it to us so we can breathe and live upon the earth. Well the same is true in a “spiritual” sense – when God made us, he breathed into us His spirit. He knew man would need an atmosphere to live and breathe on earth, He also knew man could not live spiritually without the breath or spirit of God in him. And since we have God’s spirit in us, we can have this awesome, amazing relationship with our Creator! Mr. D used the word “special”, which means only people – not animals – can enjoy a relationship with God. The really cool thing is that boy I met was really interested and asked all kinds of questions. Well, time to get on the bus. Thanks for listening & joining in the fun! God made man last in His order of creation as an expression of His love. But the greatest expression of His love is in giving us Jesus. It is because of Jesus we can have a relationship with God. Remember to thank God every day for His love, for His Son, and the life-giving words “breathed” into you as you read in His word.
